Quote: "At the sight of the words i love you the desire to stay alive had welled up in him, and the taking of minor risks suddenly seemed stupid"(109).
Significance: This quote is significant because this shows a big change in Winston's life. Earlier in the novel, Winston tells us that he disliked women, but now he says the complete opposite. There is one woman that he wanted. first he wanted to smash her head into something, now he cannot stop dreaming about her body. I think that if Winston and this woman end up having something between the two of them, this could mean trouble for Winston in the end.
